Shell increased its production in 2020 to 360 million Tonnes. Despite the global GDP lost several trillion dollars because large and small economies struggled by the COVID-19 outbreak. Still the two largest countries by population, India and China, saw an increase of 11% in their LNG import. By 2040 global LNG demand is expected to grow to 700 million tonnes.
